Our May 2025 cover stars Ameera Khan and Jefri Nichol&nbsp;mean business and they aren&rsquo;t afraid to show it.

&ldquo;Let&rsquo;s begin by telling us how you two met.&rdquo; I asked because there&rsquo;s no reason to beat around the bush with the &ldquo;It&rdquo; couple of the hour. Jefri playfully deflects to Ameera, who goes right into it with a laugh. Back in 2021, he stumbled upon a Twitter list ranking the &ldquo;Top 10 Most Attractive Girls in Malaysia&rdquo; &mdash; with Ameera bestowed with the top spot. Intrigued, he slid into her DMs, though she had no idea who he was at first. &ldquo;I was like, &lsquo;Who is this?&rsquo;,&rdquo; she admits, recalling how she went into full detective mode before replying.
But then she noticed something oddly charming &mdash; his chin looked somewhat like hers, her Mum&rsquo;s and her brother&rsquo;s. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s when I thought, Okay, this is cute&rsquo;," she says with a grin. What followed was a years-long push-and-pull, a bout of near-misses and almosts, before the stars finally aligned. &ldquo;It failed a few times,&rdquo; she says, &ldquo;But now? Now feels right.&rdquo; And if fate had a sense of humour, it&rsquo;s clear these two were always meant to be its favourite punchline.

What attracts you two to each other? 
JEFRI NICHOL The way we deal with things. We banter over topics that we aren&rsquo;t familiar with, engaging in amusing discussions so that we can learn about them and have fun in the process.
AMEERA KHAN We have this thing with our noses. We both have one thing in common: if we like the cuisine, whether it's spicy or not, our noses run. Isn't it weird? I feel that when I met him in 2021, he was big, but not as big as he is today. But he has never changed; he is incredibly grounded, honest and authentic. What you see on social media is not how he is in real life.

What's your love language?
AK There are five love languages &mdash; and mine&rsquo;s all five. [Laughs]

Do you feel pressured to be in the public eye while maintaining a healthy relationship?
AK I don&rsquo;t feel pressured since, to me, what we post on social media is entirely up to us. Everyone who knows me knows that I&rsquo;m a very private person and what I choose to share on social media is very much on the&nbsp;surface of my life. I am just showing you a glimpse of what it looks like. I only post&nbsp;adorable things that I want to share, and I don't overshare. Perhaps I will post images of us together, but that is all you will get. If we share a photo of our supper, that's all you'll get; nothing more.

Has been open about your relationship affected your work and fan base in any way?
JN No, I don&rsquo;t think so. I like to think that I&rsquo;m managing my private and professional life quite well &mdash; and my fans have been very supportive.&nbsp;

What is the one most essential thing you've learnt about being in a relationship while everyone is watching?
AK I think having been in the spotlight since I was very young has taught me the value of privacy. But, at the same time, having my love life in the spotlight makes me feel special when I show things and he shows things of us on social media. But when we do personal things together that no one knows about, it feels like even the quiet things that we do speak&nbsp;louder for me. So, I&rsquo;ve learnt to value privacy even more. Also, those who see us together can like it, but it doesn&rsquo;t bother me if they don&rsquo;t. They all have different views, and I&rsquo;m fine with that.
JN To be honest, I don&rsquo;t think much about what people say about my relationship with Ameera or me in general. It doesn&rsquo;t affect me whatsoever.

What do you do to chill?
AK He has a busy schedule, and mine is super flexible, so usually it&rsquo;d be me waiting for him to finish work. And because it&rsquo;s long distance, we usually watch movies together over FaceTime or on the phone. We also watch many films when we meet, as he has a deep passion for them. Although I have no interest in them, I decided to learn about filmmaking because he loves it so much.

It&rsquo;s all about compromise.&nbsp;
AK Exactly. You don&rsquo;t just find true love; you have to be prepared to work for it. In my case, I&rsquo;m not going to say, &ldquo;Oh my god, you love films?&rdquo; I should, at the very least, try to learn more about films and develop an interest in them.

And how much does Jefri have to adjust for you?
AK A lot. For example, consider how tight and large my family is; he has to get used to me spending time with them every day, meeting and doing things together. Others might question why I need to see my family every day, but Jefri is like, "Why aren&rsquo;t you going to see your sister today?"
JN I will just add that even though Ameera says that she doesn&rsquo;t like films, she does enjoy movies from the Sixties and Seventies.
AK He prefers those arthouse vibes and I&rsquo;m more Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. [Laughs]

What&rsquo;s your fashion no-no?
AK For me, it&rsquo;s those leather strap outfits. They are so unattractive.
JN I&rsquo;m not sure if I should name the brand but there&rsquo;s this shoe brand with very ugly shoes. You won&rsquo;t see me wearing them &mdash; ever.

How do you deal with the pressure of maintaining a good public image while being true to yourself?
AK I suppose when I was younger and new to social media, I wanted to show people what they wanted to see. But as I got older, I saw I was having trouble figuring out what my true&nbsp;interests were and who I was anymore. I was also struggling&nbsp;with a variety of issues since I was exposed to&nbsp;the spotlight&nbsp;and everything at an early age, which is not normal in retrospect.
It wasn&rsquo;t until I reached the age of 20 that I learnt how to set personal and social media boundaries. Now it's all about looking after my inner peace and being more mindful of what I post on social media. Of course, I have my bad days, but I don't share those aspects of my life online, and I no longer feel obligated to share everything about myself online. Knowing that I have control in that regard makes me happy.
JN I share what I believe my followers want to see, as well as what I&nbsp;want to post. At the same time, I want to appear as authentic as possible. I have to be much more careful especially now that I am with Ameera, since whatever I do, and post&nbsp;will have an affect her and maybe her family.

How do you want to see each other progress in the not-too-distant future? 
AK Professionally, I hope to grow together&nbsp;with Jefri. I want to see him grow. I don't know whether that&rsquo;s possible at all given how big&nbsp;he is currently. [Laughs] And I would want to see him in films that he likes making. I want to go to fashion shows with him and be photographed for magazine covers, like the one [for L&rsquo;OFFICIEL] today, which is a dream come true.
You know my vibe is more towards fashion. My primary focus is now on fashion weeks and strengthening relationships with brands with which I have previously worked closely, as well as those with whom I wish to form greater bonds.
JN For Ameera, professionally, I want her to become an ambassador of the brands she loves.
