And here's everything you need to know about the viral treatment.&nbsp;

Exosomes may sound like something straight out of the Alien franchise, but they are as real as they are promising. If the word has popped up on your skincare radar a few times and you&rsquo;re still a little in the dark, I was too. So, I connected with Dr Chester Lan at Freia Aesthetics to get the lowdown on exosomes therapy and had the opportunity to see for myself what it can do to my skin.

What are exosomes?
Exosomes are membrane-bound extracellular vesicles naturally produced by almost every type of cell in our body. They contain a variety of bioactive substances, such as peptides, anti-inflammatory molecules and growth factors that let them communicate with other cells to regulate various biological processes. &ldquo;The discovery of exosomes is considered a breakthrough in skincare science because they carry the signals to activate the repair mechanism,&rdquo; said Dr Lan. &ldquo;Think of them as messengers sending instructions and words of encouragement to the skin and hair cells to heal, repair and regenerate.&rdquo;
Dr Lan continued, &ldquo;Exosomes can be paired with in-clinic treatments like microneedling, lasers and radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. These procedures create microchannels in the skin for the potent serums to deeply penetrate and act at the cellular level.&rdquo; Incorporating exosomes in a medical aesthetic protocol can supercharge regeneration, thanks to their unique ability to stimulate collagen and relieve inflammation. There are also plenty of cosmetic products for home use that contain exosomes. While their concentration may not be as high as what you&rsquo;d get from the pros, they still give the skin a nice boost with other active ingredients.

Freia Aesthetics&rsquo; Stem Cell Exosomes Therapy&nbsp;
Essentially, exosomes therapy helps the cells to rediscover their potential. Freia&rsquo;s Stem Cell Exosomes Therapy is a 90-minute rejuvenating facial that pairs microneedling with 5 ml 100% planted-based VENN Regenerative Serum. Featuring 10 billion plant-derived exosome vesicles extracted from Panax ginseng berry, Panax ginseng root, tiger grass, sweet wormwood and buckwheat, the formula offers an ethical alternative while reducing the allergy risk associated with some animal proteins.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The serum&rsquo;s formulation is designed for transdermal delivery,&rdquo; said Dr Lan. &ldquo;By creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin, we activate the regenerative potential and make sure the serum penetrates the barrier and reaches the right layer to boost collagen, elastin and radiance.&rdquo; It's also important to note that no health authority, including the FDA, has approved any exosomes for injectable use. &ldquo;They can carry a mix of things like DNA, RNA and proteins, and because of the lack of uniformity, regulatory approval becomes tricky,&rdquo; Dr Lan added.

What to expect during and post exosome therapy?
It turned out to be incredibly relaxing. Ally, the spa manager and my therapist of the day started me off with the gentle removal of sunscreen and makeup, followed by purifying double cleansing and a welcome massage. She told me that the depuffing and firming movements also prep the skin with better blood circulation and lymph flow. It was actually so good I could feel the tension melting away from my face, and I dozed off.&nbsp;
After removing any lingering sebum with a bakuchiol formula, came two passes of microneedling across the face and neck. It was totally painless even without topical numbing, and as someone with sensitive skin, I love how every product in this treatment is plant-based and thoughtfully selected for both efficacy and comfort. That includes the calming cica complex and healing algae mask Ally used in the final steps.
There&rsquo;s no downtime after the therapy, just a reminder from Ally to keep up with my moisturiser and sunscreen to avoid dryness and strengthen the barrier. She also suggested taking a break from potent active ingredients for a while.

The takeaway&nbsp;
I could already see an instant lift and tone on the treated area after Ally worked on just one side of my face and neck with two microneedling passes. She handed me a mirror, and the comparison was kind of amazing.
Now, more than one week after the session, I haven&rsquo;t experienced any side effects. In fact, my skin has stayed calm and is less prone to redness since the treatment. I&rsquo;ve also noticed an improvement in fullness and smoothness. As Dr Lan mentioned, the production of collagen and elastin takes time, so I&rsquo;m looking forward to seeing even firmer skin in the next couple of weeks!&nbsp;
