Interview: TWICE's Tzuyu on music, fashion trends and more
The buzz of the town at the moment and trending on social media, our cover girl TWICE's Tzuyu shares her thoughts on her comeback, fashion trends and more.
Twice has recently made a comeback in the Korean domestic market since 2017’s Twicetagram. What has the reception been like?
With our EP Taste of Love, we get to tackle a new genre and vibe of music. Our fans have given the album a lot of love, as always, and that makes me really proud and feel loved.
How have your sound and image evolved since then, and do they differ much from the version for the Japanese market, especially with the latest release Perfect World?
I do feel that our sound and image have somewhat evolved since Twicetagram. I used to have a very bright and lovely image but now, I get to show a more mature and varied image. I’d say the main difference between the two versions is that we get to bring the freshness of summer with Taste of Love whereas Perfect World is an expression of a more confident and cooler concept.
The ’90s and ’00s fashion styles are having a resurgence in 2021. What are your favourite and least favourite comeback trends?
Wearing retro clothes makes me feel like I can go back to the past! That’s why I love retro vibes. I don’t think there is a comeback trend that I don’t like!
Do you see yourself, and Twice as a group, getting into these style revivals?
Of course, I love it! And we do have an album titled Eyes Wide Open where we get to take on the retro concept. Personally, I really love that concept.
If you could bring back one thing from the past, what would it be?
I want to bring back the way we lived in the past. Even though it is really convenient and easy to find something fun to enjoy these days, I am curious about how people in the past spent their time!
