Citizen’s latest timepieces from its Eco-Drive World Time Series make the art of globe-trotting a perfectly timed one.


Whether for work or pleasure, jetting from one time zone to another is now part and parcel of the modern life. Above and beyond business trips, millennials and Gen Z&rsquo;s, in particular, are driving the travel trend skyward with their penchant for vacations and digital-enabled mode of working from virtually any corner of the world.

With the nomadic lifestyle being adopted by more and more people these days, the time is ripe to consider how much utility a watch with a world-time function can bring to the table. Horology enthusiasts will be familiar with the marvel and convenience of a wristwatch that displays the world&rsquo;s major time zones on a single dial.

Citizen&rsquo;s new Eco-Drive World Time Series for men and women serves this exact purpose with its latest references boasting a number of noteworthy features. Pushing the envelope in terms of technology and design, the series is powered by a brand-new, specially designed movement, Cal.E784.

An Eco- Drive movement making use of light as a power source, this technological know-how, invented by Citizen in 1976, is able to generate light from all natural, artificial or even dim light sources to run the watch without the need of having to replace batteries.

Another new feature is the new globe dial with 26 preset time zones, allowing the traveller to have access to local time the second he or she touches down in New York, London, Paris, Tokyo and elsewhere.

The adjustment requires just a simple pull of the crown, followed by manually moving the second hand to the position indicating the name of the target city on the dial upon which the hour hand will fly automatically to the local time in that time zone. Also equipped with a perpetual calendar feature, the watch displays the correct date regardless of the varying lengths of months and leap years.

Other details include luminous hands for legibility in light- challenged conditions; durable and protective sapphire crystal glass; 50-m water resistance; and a power save function to conserve power when the watch is not in use whereby the second hand automatically stops should the watch be languishing in the dark and unable to generate power. For an idea of how long the timepiece can run, it is 6 months on a fully charged battery and 8 months when in power save mode.

The 41-mm model with a stainless steel case for men comes in a sleek and sharp-edged black dial with a slim silhouette, replete with a choice of stainless steel bracelet or leather strap. For the ladies&rsquo; version, the stainless steel case size of 38.5 mm with its sophisticated white mother-of-pearl dial is offered with either a stainless steel bracelet or leather strap.

To elevate Citizen Watch&rsquo;s &ldquo;Better Starts Now&rdquo; philosophy, the watch brand is one of the sponsors of a design contest organised by Sakura Collection with Adventure Japan to promote fashion among promising and up-and-coming fashion designers. The contest winners of the Southeast Asian edition will be given the opportunity to showcase his or her design at an award ceremony in Japan coupled with a learning stint there.

Going a step further, Citizen has collaborated with each of the four winners from these countries&mdash;(Rujira Suntayopas (Thailand), Lee Siau Teng (Malaysia), Samuel Kristyo (Indonesia), Nguyen Binh An (Vietnam)&mdash;to develop an Eco- Bag revolving around several themes: Time, Better Starts Now and Regional Essence. These bags will be given out in lieu of normal paper bags with the purchase of Citizen watches at selected Citizen points of sales and exclusive shops.
