Van Cleef & Arpels’ deep space exploration enters a new phase with the introduction of the Sous les Étoiles high jewellery collection.


It has been exactly a decade since Les Voyages Extraordinaires, a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielmalaysia.com/jewellery-watches/the-artists-behind-of-all-these-high-jewellery-brands">high jewellery</a> line inspired by Jules Verne&rsquo;s novel From the Earth to the Moon, made its grand debut at<a href="https://www.lofficielmalaysia.com/jewellery-watches/bold-and-beautiful-between-the-finger-rings-by-van-cleef-arpels"> Van Cleef &amp; Arpels</a> and it appears that the stars have once again aligned as the Parisian jewellery house recently unveiled the all-new Sous les &Eacute;toiles.

Voyaging further into the unknown, as the Maison has been since the creation of that star-shaped brooch in 1907, the collection dives into countless artistic mediums and logs no less than 150 high jewellery discoveries in the process.

&ldquo;For this new collection, we wanted to prolong the adventure that began with Jules Verne by exploring the literary and scientific tradition of which his work forms a part,&rdquo; says the brand&rsquo;s President and Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Bos.

&quot;It led us to the classical author Lucian of Samosata imagining a voyage in space, Johannes Kepler and his inspirational text&nbsp;The Dream, or&nbsp;Lunar Astronomy, written in the early 17th century, and to Camille Flammarion who published his wonderfully illustrated&nbsp;Astronomie Populaire&nbsp;in 1880.&quot;

Mapping its expedition to the accredited anthology, Van Cleef &amp; Arpels lands on the most spectacular celestial bodies in the solar system where fairy floss colours dance across the extraterrestrial skies.

The Saturne clip, for instance, is heavily influenced by the planet it&rsquo;s named after. Here, Saturn&rsquo;s distinctive rings are demonstrated by the sparkling diamond strands and they gravitate around a half-sphere in hammered yellow gold, a feature of the house&rsquo;s creations from the 1960s and 1970s, that evokes the planet itself.

Another figurative piece that stands out is the Tr&eacute;sor Astral necklace. Depicting Alcor and Mizar, the famous pair of stars visible to the naked eye, the showpiece is characterised by its mysterious blue shade, subtly tinged with violet, radiated by the two sapphires in a bold t&ecirc;te-&agrave;-t&ecirc;te. These octagonal-cut stones draw the eye deep inside their velvety materials, displaying a harmony of quality and colour despite their distinct origins. It took the Maison over a year of research to match these treasures and it has paid off in spades.

Unbound by just physical entities, Van Cleef &amp; Arpels also pulls some references from whimsical natural occurrences. Take the Boreales transformable earrings as an example. Boasting a selection of exquisite emeralds, green tourmalines, aquamarines and diamonds, the cascading piece brings to mind the gradation of colours from Aurora Borealis.

The Acontia necklace, on the other hand, illustrates the hypnotising colours of the nebulae with sapphires, emeralds and diamonds which have been painstakingly placed in a virtuoso feat of stone setting.
