The Australian designer has created a Miu Miu Upcycled collection and a poetic film, Grande Envie .

In a masterful fusion of fashion, cinema, and memory, four-time Academy Award winner Catherine Martin lends her visionary eye to Miu Miu&rsquo;s latest Upcycled collection. This sartorial and cinematic collaboration debuts Grande Envie, a captivating short film directed by Martin herself.
Inspired by Jacques Henri Lartigue&rsquo;s vibrant photographs, Martin evokes the fleeting spirit of early modernity &mdash; where precision meets playfulness. Her collection reflects this tension: the precious and the practical, the masculine and feminine, the past and present in elegant juxtaposition.
Here lies the collection&rsquo;s magic. &ldquo;Miu Miu Upcycled transforms beloved garments into objects of ultimate luxury,&rdquo; Martin says. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s the care, the love, the story that make them more precious than before.&rdquo; Each piece becomes an act of remembrance, a poetic resurgence of what lingers&mdash;and elevates&mdash;the now.

Photographer Michella Bredahl captures this vision in sun-drenched countryside, where models drift like spectres between shadow and light, between eras. The atmosphere is languid, nostalgic, and charged with longing&mdash;for beauty, escape, and the ineffable.
Since 2020, Miu Miu Upcycled has reimagined vintage garments into one-of-a-kind pieces. Far from static nostalgia, the project embraces circular design, breathing new life into forgotten clothes, refined through Miu Miu&rsquo;s aesthetic codes.

Grande Envie is set on the French Riviera of the 1920s and &rsquo;30s, a moment of cultural shift. In an opulent ch&acirc;teau, a widowed count (Willem Dafoe) encounters three spirited women, while the ghost of his wife (Daisy Ridley) reemerges through a camera&rsquo;s lens. A story of love, desire, and the spectral, both psychological and sartorial.
The garments echo this narrative tension: lingerie meets striped T-shirts, denim mingles with eveningwear, a rower&rsquo;s blazer is softened by a vintage scarf. Each look is a collage of eras, a manifesto of layered identity.
Like the film, the collection explores longing &mdash; for transformation, meaning, and beauty. Martin, a long-time collaborator of Miuccia Prada, shares a commitment to fashion as intellectual inquiry&mdash;romantic yet clear-eyed, always ethically attuned.
This is a project as palimpsest: every seam, fabric, and frame whispers of the past, pointing gracefully toward a more thoughtful, desirable future.

Miu Miu Upcycled by Catherine Martin will be unveiled at the New Bond Street boutique in London on 7th June 2025, where the collection will be available exclusively for two weeks, and from 21st June 2025 in selected boutiques worldwide.
