Can you walk us through the creative journey behind the Syomirizwa Gupta 2025 Raya collection&mdash;from initial concept to fabric selection, colour choices, and final cuts? From the very beginning, Le Chic Raya was a deliberate nod to Paris&mdash;its elegance, its artistry, and, of course, its love affair with haute couture. As a designer, Paris has always been a dream, a benchmark, a muse. But this time, it was also personal. Having spent time in France last year, I wanted to translate my experience into a collection that seamlessly blends Parisian sophistication with Nusantara heritage. The challenge was to find that perfect intersection&mdash;where tradition meets refinement, where Malay silhouettes embrace a French sensibility.&nbsp; Beyond its impeccable designs, Syomirizwa Gupta is known for its striking fashion campaigns. What can you share about the vision behind the 2025 Raya campaign? This time, I wanted authenticity&mdash;a true Parisian point of view. The campaign had to capture the city&rsquo;s charm while paying homage to the inspirations behind the collection. Think Montmartre&rsquo;s cobblestone streets, the dramatic contrasts of Film Noir, and the nostalgic glamour of 1940s and &rsquo;50s Hollywood musicals set in Paris. But the real challenge? Balancing all of that with a contemporary, relatable edge. &nbsp;

How does your brand stay ahead in Malaysia&rsquo;s ever-evolving fashion landscape? After 23 years in the industry, I&rsquo;ve learned that longevity comes down to two things: staying attuned to the world around you and holding onto what makes you unique. For me, that&rsquo;s always been about storytelling&mdash;our signature use of colour, our cross-cultural influences, our deep appreciation for history. But just as important is listening&mdash;to clients, to media, to cultural shifts&mdash;while ensuring that inclusivity, in terms of shapes, sizes, and even gender, remains at the core of what we do. In today&rsquo;s world, what does the new Raya collection represent to you? And if you had to pick a favorite look, which would it be? To me, this collection is about turning fantasy into reality&mdash;making dreams feel tangible, wearable, aspirational. It&rsquo;s about confidence in boldness, grace in movement, and the freedom to embrace individuality. As for my favorite look? It changes depending on my mood, but right now, I&rsquo;d say the oversized high-low top with matching high-waisted, giant polka-dot pants. A statement, yet effortlessly chic.&nbsp;

What are some key elements to consider when designing a Raya collection? I always start with a story&mdash;whether it&rsquo;s a song, a place, or a person. That narrative becomes the foundation, influencing everything from fabric choices to colour palettes. For Le Chic Raya, the process was deeply personal, shaped by my experiences and fascinations over the past six months. From there, cohesion is key&mdash;I want my collections to flow seamlessly, to feel intentional. I even imagine dialogues between different characters in my head, questioning and shaping the designs. The real challenge with Raya collections is respecting tradition while ensuring each piece feels fresh and exciting.&nbsp; How do you think Malaysia&rsquo;s fashion industry has evolved in recent years? When I started in 2002, the landscape was completely different. Today, there&rsquo;s so much more diversity&mdash;not just in styles, but in representation. From streetwear to couture, bridal to ready-to-wear, designers of all backgrounds are bringing unique perspectives to the table. I love seeing this fusion of localised narratives with an international flair. It&rsquo;s a Malaysian fashion renaissance.&nbsp;

What excites you the most about fashion right now? The inclusivity. Fashion has become a platform for voices that were previously unheard, and that&rsquo;s exciting. There&rsquo;s a growing awareness of how clothing can empower, how it can shape identity. And the industry? It&rsquo;s more vibrant than ever. And finally, the ultimate festive debate&mdash;are you team Nasi Impit with Kuah Kacang or Ketupat with Rendang? No contest. I&rsquo;m a Lemang and Rendang guy. Every open house, every year, since childhood&mdash;always Lemang and Rendang. No questions asked.
