Nestled within the esteemed neighbourhood of Taman U-Thant, LYLA Beauty Lounge offers a retreat from the hustling and bustling city, right in the heart of it all. Upon stepping in, I felt transported to a little island paradise. The calming glow, airy curtains, earthy-creamy palette, lush view, mosaic and rattan details all came together to evoke the tranquillity and vitality of Bali &mdash; a destination dear to Hui Jean, the founder of LYLA.

The Philosophy
&ldquo;LYLA is short for &lsquo;Love Yourself, Love Always&rsquo;, a message and reminder to make time for ourselves,&rdquo; said Hui Jean, sharing what inspired the sanctuary. &ldquo;Here, everything is safe and non-invasive. We prioritise using natural ingredients whenever possible.&rdquo; This philosophy guides the curation of LYLA&rsquo;s holistic menu which encompasses nails, brows, lashes and body treatments, with facials coming very soon.
Hui Jean added that these seemingly simple treatments, like manicures and lash extensions, can be a real confidence booster for many to feel good expressing themselves. &ldquo;It goes beyond looking good, which is why we believe in adding a layer of wellness and personalisation to our services,&rdquo; she said. At LYLA, a pre-treatment assessment of the enhancement area is essential to ensure the best results. For example, if nails are not at their healthiest for extensions, the beautician will suggest alternative treatments that focus on repairing and strengthening.&nbsp;

The Experience
Hui Jean then introduced me to the beloved LYLA Signature Spa + Gel Manicure and Keratin Lash Lift + Mascara Tint treatments, and I got to experience both for myself. My session began with a skin-softening fresh coconut milk bath &mdash; enriched with sea salt and lavender oil &mdash; for my hands while I enjoyed a serene view of lush greenery. Once my nails were perfectly smoothed, trimmed and shaped, I was led to a private room where I settled into a couch to have my nails and lashes pampered.
&ldquo;The Keratin Lash Lift is like a hair perm for the lashes, only safer and healthier as there&rsquo;s no heat involved,&rdquo; Hui Jean explained. &ldquo;This product-based treatment is a great alternative for those who want a longer, curled and defined look but find lash extensions less natural and harder to take care of.&rdquo; As straightforward as this treatment may sound, it requires skill and precision to perfect the results. The process started with an inspection of my natural lashes&rsquo; health and length, followed by selecting the ideal volume before moving on to the lift using keratin-infused serums. To finish, the beautician added a tint for a fuller definition.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Takeaway
The biggest challenge for me, an ADHD girlie, was not being able to see for almost an hour with a tingling and tight sensation on the lash lines (which is normal for a lash lift!). Thankfully, while my lashes were getting their makeover, the manicurist was finishing my gel manicure with a hand spa, putting me at ease. I appreciated how she was reassuring and explained each step, from the brightening papaya scrub to the moisturising mask and lotion she gently massaged into my skin.&nbsp;
So, how are the lashes? They looked visibly curled and enhanced right after the treatment, but I love how they softened into the perfect flutter that looks natural and alive a few days later. And of course, it takes some effort to look effortless &mdash; I&rsquo;ve made it part of my morning routine to brush the lashes with a spoolie so they stay separated and fluffy.
